I recently finished a bunch of projects that were designed for beginner woodworkers. As such, I was using the simplest joinery techniques to keep things quick and accessible. One of those techniques was pocket-hole joinery using a simple jig. I did feel a little bad that my jig was a $100 item. Chuck the bit in a drill, then mark your joint location on one of the boards. Clamp the board into the jig and drill your holes. The two holes spaced in the jig are designed for making two pocket holes in traditionally-sized face frame material, but the flexibility of the jig lets you locate the holes anywhere you prefer. After making your holes, use the drive bit to sink the screws home and you’ve got a joint in about a minute. No glue, and no waiting to move on to the next step.
